BrewDog has launched its first international joint venture in Japan, which will see its Punk IPA, Hazy Jane and Elvis Juice beers rolled out across the country in September through a partnership with Asahi Breweries.
The Ellon-based company will retain a controlling stake in BrewDog Japan, but will operate as a stand-alone entity, with its own sales, marketing and back-office teams.
BrewDog beers are already available in limited locations across Japan, but the joint venture will invest to increase brand awareness across the country.
Founded in 1889 in Osaka as Osaka Breweries, Asahi Japan has since grown into one of Japan’s biggest brewers.
The joint venture will be led by the new COO, Daisaku Okuda, who brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the beverage industry, including nearly 20 years with Asahi.
James Watt, Managing Director of BrewDog, said: “We are delighted to expand our presence in Japan and, at Asahi Japan, to do so in partnership with one of the most prestigious names in the beverage industry.
Okuda, COO at BrewDog Japan, said, “With its reputation for high quality craft beers, BrewDog already has an established fan base in Japan.
“We are delighted to launch the business operation in Japan to help bring great beer to consumers across the country. “
