
PFL Women’s Lightweight Champion Kayla Harrison had a career first with her widely publicized free agency process, but she doesn’t want to repeat it.
Harrison has been in talks with the UFC, Bellator and PFL for the past few months regarding his next MMA venture. Despite some fans’ hopes that she would move to the UFC, she opted to stay home and re-sign with the PFL.
Harrison will make her debut in the 2022 PFL season this Friday night against Marina Mokhnatkina in the PFL Main Event 3. She is looking to become a three-time PFL champion after beating Taylor Guardado in last year’s championships.
While she PFL 3 Pre-Fight Media Day Press ConferenceHarrison explained how relieved he is to focus on the fights and put the business side of the sport in the rearview mirror.
“Obviously, free agency was a bit chaotic, up and down, up and down. I’ll tell you, I never want to be a free agent again. Ever,” Harrison told MMA. News and other media outlets, “I’m the kind of person who… I need a goal, I need something to wake me up. I need that piece in my mouth. So, going that long without a fight, without a contract was kind of frustrating for me. Just exhausting and exhausting.
“So being back to doing what I love is the most important thing. I can do it with the company I believe in and they believe in me I think. We’ve done great things already, we We’ve already blown through the ceilings, and I feel that we’re going to do even better in this next contract.
Harrison had been linked with a potential clash with Cris Cyborg at Bellator before eventually returning to the PFL. She had also been connected to a super fight against Amanda Nunes at UFC before Nunes lost the title to Julianna Peña at UFC 269.
Harrison hasn’t shut the door on a fight with Cyborg, but for now, she’ll be looking to continue dominating the competition in the PFL. She has GOAT aspirations and knows that wins over Cyborg and Nunes will undoubtedly earn her that nickname.
While Harrison appreciated the extra attention as we all naturally do, she is happy to focus on continuing to develop her game and be one of the biggest stars in women’s MMA today.
