Uniform, a startup that helps businesses personalize their digital user experiences, has announced a $ 28 million Series A funding round.
The round was led by New York-based venture capital and private equity firm Insight Partners, whose past investments include Twitter, Shopify and Wix. VC firm Array Ventures and Elad Gil, entrepreneur and former Google and Twitter executive, also contributed to the round.
Uniform’s software allows UX experts to build their own technology stacks by combining functionality from vendors such as Salesforce, Google, and Amazon Web Services.
These tech giants are known to sell software tool suites that do everything from website design and content management to e-commerce and payment processing. Since these tools are provided as a package, it is difficult to customize them, said Lars Petersen, CEO of Uniform. Uniform wants to streamline the process of creating custom tech stacks, he said.
Insight Partners chief executive Teddie Wardi said investors were drawn to Uniform because it offers a new service in a hot space. The pandemic has forced businesses of all sizes to quickly update their e-commerce operations as more purchases move online.
Petersen said that Uniform took advantage of this need to gain clients like Cirque Du Soleil and Trimble through direct sales and partnerships with companies such as the CMS Contentful platform, IT provider Kin + Carta and AKQA digital design agency.
Uniform raised $ 2 million in a 2020 funding round but has focused on building their product so far, Petersen said. He plans to use the new funds to hire more engineers and salespeople, sign more vendors and tech agencies, and bring his products to market, he said.
